Humanitarian

The Australian migration system encompasses a permanent resident humanitarian program including:-

• Refugee category for people who are subject to persecution in their home country. The majority of applicants who are considered under this category are identified by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and referred by UNHCR to Australia.
  


• Special Humanitarian Program (SHP) for those outside their home country who are subject to substantial discrimination amounting to gross violation of human rights in their home country.

Temporary humanitarian visas also form part of Australia’s humanitarian program.
